If you are like many who trace roots in the state of Mississippi, you may have run across the blogs of Terry Thorton. He has a great writing style and provides some wonderful content. Back in July some unfortunate events took place over at the Genealogy Wise website. I blogged about the whoe thing being professionally patched up back on July 17th post titled “Formal apology from Genealogy Wise“. The whole thing kept bilding up even outside the GW site until it eventually led to Terry removing all of his wonderful blogs.

Imagine how excited I was this weekend to get en email from Terry letting me know that he is making a return to the blogging world! In his email he said, “The new version of Hill Country is called Terry Thornton’s Hill Country of Monroe County Mississippi and is accessible through links at HILL COUNTRY H.O.G.S. WEBPRESS. The url for the HC HOGS WebPress is http://hillcountryhogswebpress.blogspot.com/“
So spread the word that Terry is back! Welcome back sir!

Personally, I am really excited about the Family History Expo coming to Sandy, Utah. It is just a tad south of Salt Lake City and really close to a lot of great research resources. Family History Expos ( http://www.fhexpos.com ) is one of my favorite groups that puts on the genealogy conferences. I have been attending the shows now for 2 years. Usually I drive down to St. George Utah for that one, but now they are bringing the show to Northern Utah. For a full list off all of their dates and shows, see their schedule here.

Recently, I was talking with Holly Hansen, President of Family History Expos. She gave me some good information i just couldn’t help but pass on to my readers.

FamilySearch is offering Consultant Training at this Expo if any consultant has not received a notice from FamilySearch they should contact us for details. To be sure they do not miss information from FamilySearch in the future they should go to http://consultant.FamilySearch.org and register or update to their current email address.

As the Sponsor of the banquet held on Friday August 28th at 6:30 pm (register separately for that) Ancestry.com is giving a FREE copy of Family Tree Maker 2010 to each banquet attendee and there will be 10 drawings for gifts valued at $400.00 each gift. The Amazing Crista Cowan will be speaking that evening. I am planning on attending this. Come hang out and have some dinner.

Good news for individuals who have to work or have other conflicts, but do have time to visit the Exhibit Hall and attend one or two classes are in luck, they have just added the WONDERFUL option to register for single classes at $12.00 each.

They have a special deal for professionals who want to grow their business. They are setting up tables where professionals can do consultations and distribute their business cards. Anyone interested should contact Holly directly at holly@fhexpos.com

Thank You to Holly, Kimberly, Janene and the many others who help put these wonderful shows together!

Today came a formal apology from Paul Allen, CEO of Genealogy Wise, to Terry Thornton. Terry was the user who was the center of the “censorship” issues that I blogged about yesterday. In that post I did mention my respect for Paul Allen and his contribution to both the genealogy and social communities. In a very admirable move Paul apologized for the mistakes that happened and Terry accepted the apology.

You can read Paul’s apology and Terry’s acceptance here on Paul’s own blog

Bravo Paul and Terry both. You are both good men trying to make the community better. Thank You!
